“History is only understood through the way in which it is recorded. Our perception of time and space, of history and reality, are transformed in the digital world. The memories we commit to hard disk are fragile, open to interpretation and intervention.
Static Balance paints a portrait of the user, as a unique moment in time. Fragments of video are remixed to construct an image of the viewer as a collage of media memory. The screen becomes reactive, and captures fleeting images of the people who have occupied its space; the digital trace in temporary stasis.”On as part of the Brighton University MA Digital Media Arts Show ‘RESONANCE’ until 3rd July 2011, Grand Parade, Brighton, UK….Better quality images and video to follow…

The live video feed paints a portrait of the viewer using scraps of found video, with a suspended delay to capture the trace of the previous viewer’s image. I am using pd Gem with a playstation eye camera. The problem now is to work out the best ambiance and lighting for the space.
